Master Service Learning Club (MSLC), is a master student club in charge of the graduate side of Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Site at R.H Smith Business School.

The mission of the MSLC is to be a bridge between non-profit organizations and Smith Master Students, to plan and organize events related to public services in order to contribute to the community and to enrich students’ volunteering experience. MSLC dedicates to establishing relationships with non-profit organizations and providing students with a sense of social responsibility. During Spring semester, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is one of MSLC’s major project.

TerpTax, run by undergraduate students from the Robert H. Smith School of Business, is the University of Maryland Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) chapter, a program created by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) in 1969 to provide FREE tax return preparation to low-to-mid-income individuals and families, the elderly, students, and persons with disabilities.

The goals of MSLC and TerpTax are to help clients maintain compliance with the tax law, maximize their tax savings, to educate public about taxes and to provide both a valuable community service and a powerful hands-on learning experience for smith students.
